U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector arrested three drug smuggling suspects and a convicted sex offender who was trying to enter the country illegally and seized $780,000 worth of methamphetamine in separate incidents during the weekend.

Border Patrol agents with the Yuma Station arrested a convicted sex offender early Monday morning during an illegal attempt to enter the country east of San Luis, Ariz.

A background check of the Mexican national revealed multiple felony convictions for rape, sexual battery and burglary dating back to 1998.

The man had also been deported to Mexico on five previous occasions; the latest being in May 2013, through the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

His case will be turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

On Saturday, Blythe Station agents apprehended two U.S. citizens on Interstate 10, near Intake Boulevard, after finding 24 pounds of meth hidden in the trunk of their car.

On Friday, a Mexican national with U.S. legal permanent resident status, attempted to drive through a Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 95.

A canine unit alerted to the man’s truck, however, leading to the discovery of nearly 42 pounds of meth hidden in the vehicle.

All three subjects and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
