Kyl Admits Immigration Plan Isn't Perfect
May 18th, 2007 @ 6:15am by KTAR Newsroom

Senator Jon Kyl was involved in negotiations that led to a compromise immigration plan set for debate in the Senate next week.

The plan could put millions of illegal immigrations on the road to legal status, but Kyl says that's not an automatic.

"They're going to have to comply with a very stringent series of provisions while they are in effect on parole," the senator says.

"We, in this legislation, end the concept of chain migraiton to the extent that some of these people may end up with a green card or become citizens, they're not going to bring in their family with them, this extended family from back home."

Kyl made the comments on KTAR's "Gaydos After Dark."

The Republican senator admits the bill isn't perfect, but he gives is a grade B. "If I'm going to prevent a really bad bill from passing, I'd better get in and make it as good as I can. And I think we have made it very good."

"I don't know if the bill will get off the floor in within one week. It's very complicated. There will be a lot of amendments. My guess, is it will be hard to complete it in a week."

He says senators from border states fought very hard for what they believe.
