Fox to Ask Black Leaders to Support Accord
By MORGAN LEE Associated Press Writer
The Associated Press
MEXICO CITY President Vicente Fox will ask U.S. black leaders to support a migration accord, his office said Monday, as part of efforts to ease tensions over comments he made more than a week ago that were branded racist.
The president plans to raise the idea during a meeting with the Rev. Al Sharpton on Monday afternoon, spokesman Ruben Aguilar said.
Fox angered the U.S. government and black Americans on May 13 when he said that Mexican immigrants take jobs "not even" blacks want in the United States.
He defended his commitment to minorities and human rights on Sunday during an interview with civil rights activist Jesse Jackson on a U.S. radio program, in his first public response to his controversial comment.
"I very much regret the misinterpretation," said Fox, touting laws created under his administration that outlaw discrimination and protect minorities.
Sharpton has demanded that Fox apologize when the two meet Monday in Mexico City.
Many Mexicans were at first puzzled by the outcry over Fox's comment, saying the president was justified in his reaction to new U.S. immigration policies that include extending walls along the border and cracking down on illegal migrants.
Frustration has grown in Mexico with the failure of the U.S. government to approve a migration accord widely promoted by President Bush.
"There's a request that the president has already made about the usefulness of having some personalities in the African-American community within the political sphere support the migration law," Aguilar said.
Fox's administration has expressed interest in an immigration bill being put together by Senators John McCain and Edward M. Kennedy that would let illegal immigrants get three-year visas that could be renewed once.

Oh, they will. Jesse and Al got there checks last week. But the real black leaders are going to have Fox for lunch. You don't hear about them.
Robert Ashley here in Dallas. Rev. Stoval, also of Dallas. Earl Graves-founder and chariman of the board of Black Enterprises Magazine. The other black "leaders" are the millions of black AMERICANS that are tired of the "Poverty Pimps" speaking for "us". I speak for ME.FAR BEYOND DRIVEN

I am convinced that black leaders (real ones, not the messy jessies) are the only ones with the amount and kind of knowledge and experiences to figure out how to save the nation. A leader will arise who will fully relate to all of the American people, and who will always be five steps ahead of our enemies. The ememies will use their techniques and think tanks, and perhaps even weapons against him, but to him these things will be little more than a child's tantrum. He will lead America to a new era of sovereignty, freedom, and black-white unity. He will be a black man.
How do I know this? Because of survival. We are goners without him. Or actually, we are goners unless we create the conditions that promote his arrival. Therefore, as long as the American people still have a will to survive, this leader will rise.

We might expect the political leader I am talking about will be answering the call of this messenger.

For what it's worth, I believe very strongly that FOX put out that message about blacks in order to pull Jackson & Sharpton to him. This is the perfect reason to form a "coalition" of "black/Hispanic" leaders. I'll bet that Fox believes that they'll give him more strength to push through an amnesty/guest worker...............BUT, more important........CAFTA. That would solve ALL his problems and virtually make our border non existant. A payoff to those two ninkumpoops would seal the deal.

Wise to fit this in the larger picture. Your view is similar to my own view, which is suspecting that Bush/Fox already intended to try to manage black-latino relations and had the messy jackson trip in mind from the start. The controversial statement by Fox was just a lead-up and a distraction from more serious latino vs. black issues. Since the conflict cannot be avoided totally, they strive to frame and manage it in the most beneficial way.
