Deportation Halted for Some Students as Lawmakers Seek New Policy

Olga Zanella, a Mexican-born college student in Texas, should have started months ago trying to figure out how she could make a life in Mexico, since American immigration authorities were working resolutely to deport her there.

But Ms. Zanella, 20, could not bring herself to make plans. She was paralyzed by fear of a violent country she could not remember, where she had no close family.

Ms. Zanella, who has been living illegally in the United States since her parents brought her here when she was 5, had been trying to fight her deportation for more than two years. She was pulled over by the local police in February 2009 as she was driving in her hometown, Irving, Tex., and did not have a driver’s license. The police handed her over to immigration agents.

Her case looked bleak, but in recent days everything changed. Last Thursday, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement official in Dallas summoned Ms. Zanella and told her she could remain in this country, under the agency’s supervision, if she stayed in school and out of trouble.

Encouraged by the surprising turnaround, Ms. Zanella’s parents and two siblings, who also had been living in the United States illegally, presented papers late Monday to ICE, as the agency is known, turning themselves in and requesting some form of legal immigration status.

Rewards and Benefits in any form will only promote more massive Illegal Immigration. There is no doubt about it.

Deport them and let them make it better in their native country.

It doesn't seem to matter to the Administration that the DREAM Act failed to pass, they are going to do it anyway.

Where is Congress on this? It seems that Democrats and Illegal Immigration groups are now deciding what laws will be enacted in this country, even if they defeated in the legislative process. The Democrats and their insatiable quest for power have turned this country into a Banana republic.

There is no respect for our laws as they bastardize the legislative process. Laws mean nothing since all decisions are being made by courts that "interpert" the laws based on their own political leanings. The 8th circut and the judge in WI are perfect examples.

Why should we be concerned with elections? It seems they are only being held to give the impression that that there is a choice. Voter fraud is rampant, there are no penalties when it is proven and no change. Al Franken is a good example, Bennet of Colorado is another and of course Harry Reid is the poster child for staying in power through fraud and collusion.

It doesn't matter who "runs" in 2012, the fix is in, Chicago style.

Why the silence from those race baiting/hustlers Sharpton and Jackson when Obama equated those brought here against their will on slave ships to those who violated our laws, borders and sovereignty? We are a third world lawless banana republic......

A 20 year old is an adult. She does not need her parents or siblings or any of her illegal relatives to make it here now.

Heck, if they sent her along with her family home, she would not be in a country where she has no family she knows....

Heck, if they sent her along with her family home, she would not be in a country where she has no family she knows....

Why don't they give you the rest of the story. I went through the immigration process with my daughter and I know from experience. This 20 year old is doing this so the whole family can stay. Once your are 21 you are an adult in the eyes of immigration and canoot be sponsored by your parents. If she gets it she cannot sponsor her other relatives that easily. You can sponsor your spouse and children under 21 easily.
