LOS ANGELES - An affair between Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and a Spanish-language newscaster has ended, it was reported Saturday.

Villaraigosa and Mirthala Salinas broke up a couple of months ago, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing two sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

"They broke up earlier in the fall. They've both moved on. And Antonio is focused on his relationships with his kids," one of the sources told the newspaper.

Deputy Mayor Sean Clegg said Friday the mayor has already "fully addressed" the issues surrounding the end of his marriage.

Salinas, who worked at the LA Telemundo station, was a fill-in anchor on evening newscasts in June when she announced the news of Villaraigosa's separation from his wife, Corina.

Salinas led the story by saying, "The rumors were true."

What she didn't tell viewers was that she had been in an extramarital affair with Villaraigosa for many months.

Salinas is a former reporter in the Phoenix area, having worked for KVVA-FM and KPHX-AM radio.

She began her television- reporting career in 1993 at KTVW-TV, Channel 33, in Phoenix, according to the Telemundo 52.com Web site.

The mayor acknowledged the long-rumored affair on July 3 after a newspaper story revealed details of the relationship.

His wife filed for divorce.

Salinas was one of a handful of employees at Telemundo who were disciplined because of the affair.

She received a two-month suspension and was reassigned from her post as temporary anchor to a Telemundo bureau in Riverside County.

Instead of returning to her job, she quit.
