Two women and man suspected of harboring nine undocumented immigrants at a San Elizario home were arrested Tuesday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
The three were arraigned in federal court today.

The names of those arrested were not available this morning.

Their arrests came after Border Patrol agents assisted the El Paso County Sheriff s Office and the Socorro Police Department in apprehending a man who allegedly shot at a Socorro police officer Tuesday morning.

While assisting local law enforcement, Border Patrol agents discovered undocumented aliens were being kept at a home on the 12200 block of Las Pompas Road, where the shooting suspect had temporarily barricaded himself.

The shooting suspect, Luke Herrada, fled from the house and was later arrested.

Border Patrol agents involved ICE after discovering that nine people at the house were undocumented immigrants. ICE agents began an investigation that determined the undocumented immigrants were all adults from the interior of Mexico.

The result of their investigation showed two of the women in the house had allegedly been harboring the nine immigrants, Zamarripa said.
ICE agents also arrested a man at the house on allegations that he participated in smuggling the undocumented immigrants into the U.S.

He is believed to be the coyote, Zamarripa said.

She said the investigation has led to more arrests. Details about the additional arrests were not available this morning.

ICE officials said Herrada went to the house because one of the arrested women was his ex-girlfriend.

Herrada has not been charged with any offenses linked to the undocumented immigrants, according to jail records.
