LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A former Alamogordo resident has pleaded guilty to conspiring to transport illegal immigrants into the country.

Prosecutors say 58-year-old Mohamed Farooq Husain entered his plea Tuesday in federal court in Las Cruces.

He remains free pending his sentencing hearing, which hasn't been scheduled yet. Prosecutors say Husain faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Husain was arrested for conspiring with others to unlawfully transport illegal immigrants and helping them obtain New Mexico driver's licenses between September 2010 and last July.

Authorities say he admitted that he assisted up to two illegal immigrants obtain New Mexico drivers' licenses on a monthly basis.
