Bridgeton police blotter includes suspected illegal immigrant charged in attempted burglary

* Sergio Gomez, 32, of Irving Avenue, was arrested late Wednesday night on the charges of attempted burglary, criminal mischief and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Two police officers on foot patrol allegedly observed Gomez attempt to break into a Marion Street woman’s car at about 11:45 p.m. The car was parked on Marion Street, near Walnut Street.

Gomez ran from the two officers, but eventually was apprehended on Irving Avenue, on the other side of North Pearl Street, following a lengthy foot pursuit. He had a large stick in his possession at the time of his arrest, police said.

Police additionally charged Gomez, a suspected illegal immigrant, with two counts each of obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.

Bail on all seven charges was set at $50,000.

Gomez is being held in the county jail on a no-bail detainer issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
