Thread: Harry Reid invokes Rule 14 on stand alone Dream act!

Harry Ried has invoked rule 14 on the new stand alone Dream act Amnesty bill to undermine the American people!


That means he is setting up Senate procedure to spring the amnesty at any time without hearings or committee action. For the Majority Leader to invoke Rule 14 means that he can bring a bill to a floor without it going through the debate and markup of a committee.


Under the rule, the amnesty bill (S. 2205) can be brought up as early as Tuesday.

The rule also allows Sen. Reid to wait until Americans are distracted and bring it at any time in the future at the spur of the moment.

So, we need all of you hitting up your Senators' offices all over again starting Monday with phone calls and faxes.

Besides Reid, the chief culprits in this mess are Senate Assistant Majority Leader Durbin (D-Ill.), Sen. Hagel (R-Neb.) and Sen. Lugar (R-Ind.). I hope you will feel free from anywhere in the country to let these four Senators know how you feel about their aggressive leadership to pass this amnesty.

The Dream Act had been through committe and all that before. This is like a 6 year old piece of... legislation that has failed time and time again. If it's not in perfect form by now, it never will be. It is exactly what it should be AMNESTY and it will pick up all the people that did not recieve Amnesty in 1996 and from the date of enactment forward. It is a permanent amnesty generator for every illegal that can get in this country with a kid.

It is socialized medicine, giving again free medical to the illegal immigrant and way to expensive. Harry Ried is a democrat plain and simple. Who is lining is pockets. Does anyone know?

I am a relatively new immigrant (5 years) and currently have LPR status. Will be able to apply for naturlisation in the new year.

A couple of questions ...How many times can they keep tring to revive this
Dream Act? Until they get the answer they want?? Sounds like the kind of tactics I employ on my husband when I want new furniture etc.

Secondly - I have been emailing & faxing like a lunatic in my husand's name (with his full knowledge & consent, he works long hours) & when he is home he makes the calls. If I made calls would they listen to me? It is pretty obvious as soon as I open my mouth that I am not American born - as a LPR do I have a 'right' to an opinion? I have a VERY strong opinion!!

Quite apart from everything else that is obviously wrong with the Dream Act it is a major kick in the teeth for us legal immigrants. Are they going to give me back the two years of my life I spent in limbo while waiting for a visa? That is not a complaint BTW - as my Gran used to say when I was a child "This is my house & thems the rules!"

scottiemum you are the perfect caller. You tell them you came the legal way. You did all things correctly to honor this nation and its laws. You are angry that they would cheapen all the work, tests, and money you spent and by putting these people in front of others who are obeying America's laws.

Tell you will remember who votes Yes for this and which political party is thrust it upon the American citizen and naturalized citizens.

You certainly should call & tell Senate offices why you oppose the Dream Act. Calls are effective, and moreso from you because you did things the legal, proper way. Good luck and thanks for helping out!
