Border Agents in Arizona Seizes $2 Million Worth of Marijuana

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station discovered 103 bundles of marijuana hidden in an abandoned vehicle near the Village of San Miguel, Ariz. on the Tohono O’odham Reservation yesterday.

Agents were patrolling in the area when they discovered vehicle tracks heading north, away from the border. The tracks led to an abandoned pickup and camper shell. As agents approached the truck, they observed what appeared to be bundles of marijuana through the windows. Further investigation led to the discovery of 103 bundles of marijuana weighing a combined 2,517 pounds.

The truck was found to have been reported stolen out of Nogales, Ariz., and was turned over to the Tohono O’odham Police Department for recovery services. The 2,517 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $2,014,160 was remanded to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

TX: Border Agents in Brownsville Seizes More Than 1,200 Pounds of Marijuana

The seizure occurred when agents assigned to the Brownsville Border Patrol station responded to suspicious activity near the Rio Grande River. Agents observed several individuals loading bundles of possible narcotics into a dark colored mini van.

Nearby agents tried to perform a vehicle stop, but the driver did not cooperate and turned the vehicle around and went back toward the river. The driver absconded into Mexico by wading across the Rio Grande River after he abandoned the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, agents found 16 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,245.5 pounds with a total value of $996,400.

Border Patrol seized the vehicle and the marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
