Spanish-Language DJs Don’t Support Economic Boycott
Spanish-Language DJs Don’t Support Economic Boycott
Hoy, Posted: Apr 30, 2007
LOS ANGELES — The country’s most popular Spanish-language radio personalities are not supporting the day-long economic boycott over immigration policy, reports the April 26 edition of Spanish-language newspaper Hoy. Eddie Sotelo, popularly known as ‘El Piolín,’ spoke out on air in favor of last year’s May 1 ‘Great American Boycott.’ This year however, Sotelo said he respected the planned boycott but would not participate because he believes it hurts the United States more than it helps. Another popular radio host, Renán Almendárez Coello, or 'El Cucuy', told Hoy recently that he would not support a boycott either. ‘El Piolín’ has focused his efforts on a campaign to collect one million letters to President Bush and U.S. Congress in favor of immigration reform. The letter can be found at www.yoapoyolareformamigratoria.com.
