Washington.- The democratic legislator Luis Gutiérrez notified today against the "politicization" of the swine flu epidemic, that has forced the increase in measures of precaution in North America, upon assuring that "the enemy is the virus, not the people".

The democratic legislator Luis Gutiérrez indicated that swine flu epidemic cannot be utilized against the immigrants. "What has happened in Mexico is an act of God... this problem should not be politicized", said Gutiérrez during a breakfast with journalists and activists for-immigrants in Congress.

"I expect that all of them understand how these epidemics work... lets observe history, it is (a phenomenon of ) biology, it is the nature of globalization", affirmed the democratic legislator of Illinois.

Gutiérrez reacted thus before fears that the swine flu epidemic, that has caused a travel warning to Mexico by the U.S. and the European Union, be utilized against the immigrants.

The focus of the authorities has been and should be, added the legislator, the protection of the population, because "the enemy is the virus, not the people".

In turn, Frank Sharry, executive director of the group America' s Voice, assured to Efe that the "illnesses are globalized, but some right-wingers are going to blame the Mexicans".

"I believe that the U.S. authorities are not going to point the finger at the Mexicans, but they are going to continue seeking the way of scrambling with this very serious situation. Fortunately we have professionals in charge of this situation and those right wing voices will be remote instead of being the focus of attention", declared Sharry.
