U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: (08/25/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 9,362 pounds of marijuana, 127 pounds of cocaine, 30 pounds of heroin, and 15.8 pounds of liquid methamphetamine. Agents arrested six criminal aliens and four gang members. There was one rocking incident.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ocotillo, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender and had been previously removed from the United States.


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject claimed he had been kidnapped for ransom by an alien smuggling organization in Mexico. He further stated that he was released by his captors after a family member paid a $3,200 ransom. The subject’s claim of kidnapping was referred to the appropriate authorities for investigation.


Swanton Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued three civilians involved in a boating accident on the St. Lawrence River near Hogansburg, New York. Agents observed a collision between two boats in which one boat capsized and a number of people went into the water. Agents responded to the area and pulled three civilians from the water, while another civilian vessel rescued three additional victims. A seventh boater died in the collision. The injured boaters were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Buffalo Sector – Border Patrol agents assisted local law enforcement officers in a search for three subjects suspected in a stabbing incident near Scriba, New York. Agents tracked the three subjects to a house and then provided perimeter security while local authorities negotiated the suspect’s surrender.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a United States Citizen (USC) near McAllen, Texas. The subject falsely represented himself as a Mexican national, but records checks revealed the subject was a USC with active arrest warrants for failure to appear on charges of murder, driving while intoxicated, and striking an unattended vehicle.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,419 pounds of marijuana, a Ford van, and arrested a USC juvenile near Hidalgo, Texas. Agents observed several individuals carrying bundles of suspected narcotics toward the van before it immediately left the area. As agents approached, the van stopped abruptly and agents apprehended the USC. A search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,244 pounds of marijuana, a Dodge pickup, and arrested two USCs while performing line watch duties near Del Rio, Texas.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a Nissan pickup, and arrested a USC and two illegal aliens from Mexico near Laredo, Texas. Agents attempted a vehicle stop and the driver initially failed to yield. The driver then pulled over and stopped. As an agent approached on foot, the driver put the vehicle in reverse and struck the agent with the vehicle. The driver then pulled forward and attempted to run over the agent before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Agents quickly subdued the driver and arrested the two remaining passengers. Records checks on the USC driver revealed an extensive criminal history, including assault on a public servant, assault causing bodily injury, resisting arrest, evading arrest, and engaging in organized criminal activity.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a Sureño gang member and had a prior conviction for drug possession.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Why, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for unlawful intercourse with a person under 18 and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,339 pounds of marijuana, a Freightliner tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Huachuca City, Arizona. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer, and a search by agents uncovered the narcotics.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,263 pounds of marijuana, a Chevrolet van, and arrested two adult illegal aliens and one juvenile illegal alien from Mexico near Hidalgo, Texas. Agents observed numerous individuals carrying bundles toward the vehicle. As agents approached the area, the subjects absconded on foot, abandoning the narcotics and the vehicle.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 30 pounds of heroin, a Chrysler Sebring convertible, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Quartzsite, Arizona. The subject presented herself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A search by agents revealed the narcotics.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Border Brothers gang member. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for burglary and had been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,289 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Hebbronville, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and subsequent search revealed the marijuana concealed inside the vehicle.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 15.8 pounds of liquid Methamphetamine, a Chevrolet Trailblazer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Winterhaven, California. The subject presented himself for inspection and a consensual search revealed the narcotics concealed within the vehicle.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Deming, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for manslaughter in the state of North Carolina and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 127 pounds of cocaine and a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix near Hidalgo, Texas. Agents observed suspicious activity, responded to the scene and discovered the vehicle abandoned. A search of the vehicle revealed the cocaine.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents were assaulted with rocks and fired upon near Calexico, California. Agents were arresting two illegal aliens from Mexico when they were assaulted by rock throwers near the international border fence. Agents deployed their Pepper-Ball Launching System (PLS) and their attackers returned to Mexico. Immediately after deployment of the PLS, agents heard two gun shots fired from Mexico, which ricocheted off the pavement between them.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sunland Park, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Paisa gang member and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents observed an ultra light aircraft (ULA) incursion near Douglas, Arizona. The ULA entered the United States from Mexico and dropped its cargo. Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement officers searched the drop zone and recovered approximately 222 pounds of marijuana.
