The poll found just 38 percent of those asked said they approve of the job the president is doing, a record low for Bush in the Newsweek poll. Fifty-five percent said they disapprove of Bush.
Just 28 percent said they are 'satisfied with the way things are going' in the country -- down from 36 percent in August and 46 percent in December. Two-thirds said they are not satisfied with the direction of the country, Newsweek reported.
The magazine said 57 percent of those polled expressed a loss of confidence in government`s ability to deal with another major natural disaster, because of 'government`s slow response to what happened in New Orleans.'
The question asked about 'government' in general, without distinguishing among federal, state or local government -- or any combination of the three.
Fifty-two percent said they do not trust Bush 'to make the right decisions during a domestic crisis,' while 45 percent said they do.
Only 49 percent of registered voters said Bush has strong leadership qualities -- down from 63 percent just before the November 2004 electionJoin our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
