Lou Dobbs Tonight
Thursday August 14, 2008

Tonight, we’ll have the latest news from the campaign trail
with our weekly political roundtable, an update on the
developments in war-torn Georgia, and all the day’s news from
around the country. Plus:

* A bipartisan group of 10 senators has offered an energy plan
that would help to ease the burden of oil prices on our middle
class. This plan includes producing more domestic oil through
off shore drilling, requiring automobiles to be more fuel
efficient and promoting more renewable energy sources.

* Sen. Chuck Grassley has released a report from the Government
Accountability Office which shows that drug smuggling on
containerized cargo ships is a threat to U.S. counter narcotics
efforts. The report focuses on the effectiveness of efforts in
the so-called drug transit zone which includes Mexico, Central
American, the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico and the eastern
Pacific Ocean. Grassley said he is concerned with the lack of
focus that has been that has been placed on cargo ships that
may be smuggling drugs into the country.
