A man was arrested while trying to cross the B & M International Bridge Thursday evening, allegedly carrying about 10 pounds of cocaine, Brownsville Police spokesman J.J. Trevino said.

Customs and Border Protection Officers stopped Enrique Coronel Cortes, 46, as he crossed the bridge in vehicle. A search of the car revealed 9.5 pounds of the narcotic, Trevino said.

The officers turned Cortes over to Brownsville Police, who made the arrest and booked him in the city jail on charges of possession with intent to distribute.

Trevino said the Mexican Consulate was notified, so presumably, Cortes is a Mexican citizen.
