TUCSON - A Mexico City man who was caught re-entering the U.S. after being deported twice before has been sentenced to nearly 8 years in federal prison.

The U.S. attorney's office in Phoenix announced on Friday that 34-year-old Arturo Ramirez Garcia received a 70-month term after pleading guilty to attempted re-entry after deportation.

He also was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge James Cacheris to two additional years because he was on supervised release from an earlier re-entry after a deportation conviction where he served two years in prison.

Ramirez was caught on June 2, 2009, after jumping the border fence into Nogales, Ariz.

He had been deported just weeks before after completing the prison term. He also had previous convictions for attempted burglary, drugs, and re-entry after deportation.
