INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Hundreds of college students around Indiana have admitted to being illegal immigrants and are being forced to pay out-of-state tuition rates that can triple their bills.
Laws approved by the Legislature this year take away in-state tuition eligibility from students "not lawfully present" in the country. The Indianapolis Star reports (http://bit.ly/rqMZqj ) about 300 students at Indiana's seven public colleges have acknowledged they aren't in the country legally.
Sayra Perez was born in Mexico and has lived in the U.S. since she was 5. She says she'll face paying $4,500 for only two classes this year toward a biochemistry degree at IUPUI.
Republican Rep. Mike Karickhoff of Kokomo co-sponsored a bill taking away in-state tuition eligibility. He says the state's limited resources should go toward students who are legal residents.

What is the difference in out of State tuition and tuition for a foreign national? If they're illegal they sure as shit ARE NOT "out of state"!

Thank goodness! Hey, wait a minute. Is Indiana one of the states our opponents have been listing in their list of 12 states or so that allow illegals in-state tuition?

Five states – Alabama, Georgia, Indiana South Carolina and Utah – crafted omnibus laws following the example of Arizona’s SB.1070. The legislation includes provisions that require law enforcement to attempt to determine the immigration status of a person involved in a lawful stop; allowing state residents to sue state and local agencies for noncompliance with immigration enforcement; requiring E-Verify; and making it a state violation for failure to carry an alien registration document. Alabama’s HB.56 requires schools to verify students’ immigration status. All five immigration enforcement laws have been challenged in court, citing federal preemption and violation of the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments.
