Sen. Alexander: Border security must precede path to citizenship for immigrants

President Barack Obama should force on securing the border before bringing up immigration reform, a top Republican said Sunday.

Senate Republican Conference Chairman Lamar Alexander (Tenn.) said that border security would have to precede any conversations on comprehensive immigration reform, for which an outline of legislation was released by Senate Democrats this week.

"When the border's secure, then we can deal with people illegally here, and how they become citizens or not," Alexander said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Three top Senate Democrats unveiled a plan for comprehensive immigration reform on Thursday. The outline for legislation from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sens. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) seeks to provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, but stresses the need for increased border security first.

The legislation also came amidst a backdrop of tough, new immigration laws in Arizona, which the president has criticized.

"Instead of joking about the Arizona situation and suing Arizona, the president ought to work with the governor and secure the border," Alexander said Sunday. "That's his job, he's the commander in chief; it's a federal responsibility."

Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee recently said that we should teach English to illegal aliens. He is for a piecemeal approach, rather than comprehensive immigration reform. Amnesty - piecemeal style.

Save your breath Senator. Even with a military presence we are a long way away from border security. They are coming in by tunnels, boats, U Haul trucks.

As long as our Government keeps talking about Amnesty they will come here by hook or crook to get in on the "Deal Of The Century".

If our Gov. would announce NO More Amnesty EVER and mean it by passing a Bill stating never ever again they would stop coming by the Bus Loads and start leaving by the Bus Loads instead.

Citizens want our current Immigration Laws Enforced and our National Borders Secured. The so called path to citizenship is nothing but code for BLANKET AMNESTY; we heard enough about the "path to citizenship" for the ILLEGALS from Bush and McCain. Had McCain not taken a Pro-ILLEGAL stance backing Blanket Amnesty for the ILLEGALS and sided with U.S. Citizens he may have well been President today. I know I didn’t vote for McCain or obama because of their Pro-ILLEGAL stance including AMNESTY for ILLEGALS and I could never support anyone in the future who is Pro-ILLEGAL supporting Amnesty no matter what name, including path to citizenship, is used.
