Sheriff to testify about immigration
The Enquirer • March 10, 2009

The Butler County sheriff will take his tough anti-illegal-immigration campaign to the Statehouse today.

Sheriff Rick Jones will speak to a committee in support of a proposed bill that would allow Ohio officials statewide to enforce federal immigration laws.

State Sen. Bill Seitz, R-Green Township, is a co-sponsor of the proposal, Senate Bill 35.

The bill would require the Ohio attorney general to reach an agreement with the U.S. attorney general about that enforcement and to designate police to be trained in enforcing those laws.

Last year, after undergoing training, some of Jones' deputies were given special power to help enforce federal immigration laws.
