MEDirect is the only company positioned to serve the U.S. Hispanic healthcare market as a direct-to-consumer Medicare provider on an authentically national level. The Company's current focus is the distribution of products for the treatment of Type II diabetes specifically due to the disproportionate impact and increasing diagnosis rate of diabetes within the US Hispanic population, noting an incidence of 120% higher than among non-Hispanic whites. Type II diabetes was also targeted because of its unique status within the Medicare reimbursement regime and because of its high degree of correlation to other chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and heart disease. These other conditions represent considerable future market potential that will allow MEDirect to efficiently scale its model by leveraging its existing client base and infrastructure.

Mexicans eat a lot of junk food, and I guess in their society being plump is looked at positively.

The men work off the food so they generally aren't heavy, but the women and children are all pretty chubby. Even if they work it off, those foods still take a toll on their health. I know that mexicans culturally like their food to be very sweet (like adding sugar to already sweet juice) and then add in all the take out, fast food, and regular junk food they eat and you see where all this is coming from. The anchor babies of today will be having serious health problems before they're 30.

You're right, they do eat a lot of junk food.

I have several high school nieces that work for both McDonalds, and Burger King, and they say almost half of their daily customers are of Hispanic decent.

I have seen some of the foods they buy at the grocery store, and their carts are loaded with Coke Colas, canned ice tea, and lots of sweet cakes, buns, and chips. They also buy a lot of salted meats... like hotdogs, cold cuts, and bacon.

I don't know if they have changed their way of eating since coming to America , but they do eat a lot of junk food.

I don't know if you saw the movie Supersize Me, but it showed the health effects of eating a steady McDonald's diet. Within 30 days the guy was having so many problems his doctor was telling him to stop, now imagine people who have been eating that way since they were old enough to chew by themselves.

I think the heavy patronization of fast food establishments by lower socioeconomic people in the USA (including those who aren't hispanic) have to do with it being cheaper than eating out a regular restaurant, not having to prepare anything, the food tasting good (I personally don't care for it though), and the impression that it's cool to eat at those places among other factors.

I think the FDA should ban food as dangerous as the food served by these fast food chains in the interest of public health (because if you were to eat a steady diet of these foods it would have a high likelyhood of leading to fatal disease). There's no reason why they can't be serving real burgers on a real bun, and real potato fries.
