Jackson Lee Calls on DOJ to 'Wake Up' After Suspected DUI Ki

Well, well. It does make one wonder why TX's Sheila Jackson Lee hasn't been on the anti illegal immigration bandwagon since so many illegal aliens murder U.S. citizens then flee to their home country. Of course this guy was here on a student visa - so THAT'S different. Or maybe she's just trying to get re-elected so she raises a stink about this ONE case?

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is calling on the Justice Department to "wake up and do something" after a Nepalese student accused of killing three teenagers in a drunken driving accident in her district fled the country.

The United States doesn't have an extradition agreement with Nepal, but the Texas Democrat told FoxNews.com she is urging U.S. officials to "use all measures possible to secure the return" of 25-year-old Sajan Tamalshina.

"Obviously, we have three dead teenagers that didn't need to lose their lives to a drunk driver," she said.

Jackson Lee said U.S. officials have made some "initial inquiries" after she demanded action in a House floor speech last week. The district attorney's office in the county where the accident occurred has said it is working with the State Department and the U.S. Marshal's service to track Tamalshina in Nepal.

    But Jackson Lee isn't satisfied.

"The U.S. Marshal needs to stop hiding from my office and get over to my office to discuss why you can't do something," Jackson Lee said in that speech. "You can engage in diplomatic dialogue. You can ask the country of Nepal to be able to work with you to return this individual. He will not be getting the death sentence. Maybe 60 years. You are leaving crying parents with no justice because you let someone go."

Last month, authorities say Tamalshina caused a fatal accident when he ran his car through a red light and crashed into a SUV carrying five teenagers and two adults returning home from an outing. Three teenagers – a 17-year-old and two 13-year-olds – died shortly after.

Investigators released Tamalshina at the scene because they say they wanted to test his blood alcohol level before arresting him despite his admission of drinking. But now Houston police admit they had enough evidence to arrest him.

When the district attorney finally decided to charge Tamalshina with three counts of intoxication manslaughter after learning his blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit, Tamalshina, who was in the U.S. on a student visa, had left the country.

Toshiya Davis, whose 13-year-old daughter, Detrihanna Davis, died in the accident, told FoxNews.com that she hasn't heard from local or U.S. officials on their efforts to get Tamalshina back.

"I really don't know what they're doing at this time to get him back, but my thought on it is they should have never released him," she said."I just really think they dropped the ball. I don't feel like they did their job."

Davis said she believes officials could do more to get Tamalshina back, but added she doesn't know what they're doing.

"My thing is, at least let me know what's going on," she said. "They're not telling us anything."

In her House floor speech, Jackson Lee said, "I am calling on the Justice Department and the attorney general of the United States to recognize that they are here to protect the people of the United States, and these three dead teenagers are in need of their protection in their loss, and their families want justice. I am asking for the U.S. Marshal to show up and work with us to do something on behalf of these Americans and these families that are mourning."

The Justice Department told FoxNews.com that it has been in contact with Jackson Lee's office "regarding this serious matter, and will continue to provide information as appropriate."

"Generally, however, the department doesn't comment on specific matters related to mutual legal assistance," Justice spokeswoman Laura Sweeney said in a written statement.

Jackson Lee's office told FoxNews.com that Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich sent a letter to her saying the department will make efforts to bring the suspect back. The office would not release a copy of the letter.

But Jackson Lee told FoxNews.com that she is still pressing forward for more action.

"I'm not fully satisfied," she said, adding that she is "committed to bringing this individual back" to the U.S. to face justice.

I hope Jackson Lee also urges the full prosecution of the illegal that killed a nun and injured two others. Or does it not matter when the offender is Hispanic?

I don't mean to make light of this terrible loss of life. But countless others have lost their lives at the hands of illegals.

Since the perpetrator is Nepali he does not have a large political organization behind him who could mobilize voters in her district like the Mexicans. She has made it clear that she does not care if due to the unemployment caused by the presence in the job force of the illegal alien employees of her Mexican American voters and donors many babies from the same families that died in the accident were aborted.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
