Men jailed because of immigration status ordered released

OKLAHOMA CITY — An attorney representing two illegal immigrants who were jailed because of their immigration status isn’t sure what effect an appeals court decision will have on a controversial state law.

The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals on Feb. 7 issued an order to release Luis Mauricio Ochoa and Gregorio Robles, the men’s attorney, Joan Lopez, said. A published opinion is expected later.

Lopez said she hopes the judges will provide more feedback on how courts should interpret the immigration law in their forthcoming opinion.
