PHOENIX mayor robbed !
PHOENIX - Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon spent Sunday morning cleaning a mess left behind by a burglar.
"These crimes happen and I'm not different than anyone," he said Sunday at his central Phoenix home.
The Mayor says he was asleep in his home around 3:30 a.m. Saturnday when a burglar broke in through the back door and stole a computer. A wallet, check book and papers were nearby but not taken.
"Detectives think I may have scared him when I woke up early to get coffee," said Gordon.
Gordon didn't discover the burglary until around 6:30 a.m, after noticing the back door had been damaged.
He apparently noticed a draft coming from the laundry room when he got up Saturday morning, but didn't think anything of it.
The Mayor has a security detail guarding him but it is not in effect 24 hours a day.
Gordon says he called a security team member when he noticed the break in. That person told him to get out of the house and call 9-1-1.
The suspect is still on the loose and the Mayor was not hurt.

I hope they do arrest an illegal alien for doing this, preferably one that has benefited from Gordon's sanctuary city policies.

Mayor Phil Gordon's security quiet after theft
by Lynh Bui - Oct. 12, 2010 12:00 AM
The Arizona Republic
City officials declined Monday to discuss whether Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon will have security around the clock after his house was burglarized over the weekend.
The mayor has a city-issued police detail from a crew that oversees his day-to-day security.
"We're not going to talk about the specifics of the mayor's security," said David Leibowitz, a spokesman for Gordon's office. "The incident over the weekend demonstrates the need for the Police Department to drive security-making decisions and for us to be as circumspect as possible when it comes to the mayor's security."
A thief broke in through the back door of Gordon's central Phoenix house Saturday morning.
At the time of the burglary, the mayor was home alone and not being monitored by his security detail, which typically doesn't provide 24/7 surveillance unless there are heightened security concerns.
Officials with the Phoenix Police Department declined to comment, citing security concerns.
Phoenix police in May temporarily placed Gordon under 24/7 surveillance after he received death threats over his vocal opposition to Senate Bill 1070, Arizona's controversial new immigration-enforcement law.
Gordon has a home-security system but said he usually doesn't turn it on at night to avoid setting it off when he or his son are walking around the house. The mayor said on Saturday that he is looking to upgrade to a system he'll leave on when he is home.
Gordon reported the only thing missing from the incident was his personal computer, though the mayor's wallet and checkbook were in the same room. It is unclear why nothing else was taken, Leibowitz said.
"If this is a smash-and-grab incident that happens in the wee hours of the morning, it's very rushed, it's very hurried and these are people who aren't thinking very logically," Leibowitz said.
