MCALLEN - Things like the shape of your eyes and your face are called biometric identifiers. The tiny measurements are as unique as your DNA.

New technology is helping law enforcement use those measurements to stop crimes.

"This system has other technology that it does. For security reasons, we can't talk about that, but I will tell you this. It's been a system that's helping us out greatly, and we think it's going to continue helping us with the better technology out there," says DPS Trooper Johnny Hernandez.

The system made by L1 Identity Solutions maps your face. It measures the distance between eyes, from cheek to cheek. They say it's information that's unique to each person. Now the Texas Department of Public Safety, State Department and Department of Homeland Security are all using the technology.

Officials won't say exactly how they're using the technology; they just say it's proving useful.
