Man arrested for stealing fake leg

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Des Moines man who police say skipped out of paying for a prosthetic leg has been arrested.

Police say Rigoberto Zarazua-Rubio was arrested March 9 at an Omaha, Neb., apartment and charged with conspiracy to sell methamphetamine.

Pottawattamie County, Iowa, Sheriff Jeff Danker says Zarazua-Rubio was brought to his jail on suspicion of being in the country illegally. That's when authorities discovered he was wanted on a warrant for the theft of the leg.

Police say Zarazua-Rubio was measured and fitted for the leg at a Des Moines business in 2005. They say he picked it up to test for a few hours but never returned to pay for it.

Police say the leg was confiscated and will be returned to the store.

Oh dear........that's sad in a way. It's off topic in a way....but if one has an prosthetic leg, is there a place that needs them? I wouldn't think they could be reused because of fittings, but just curious if there was a program that needed them.
