Illegal immigrant gets prison for selling cocaine

A 50-year-old illegal immigrant will spend four years in prison before being deported for distributing cocaine and marijuana out of a Sheboygan apartment, according to court records released Tuesday.




Juan Ocampo-Sotelo, formerly of 1420-A New York Ave., was sentenced Friday by Judge Timothy Van Akkeren, who also imposed three years of extended supervision. That time will be irrelevant, however, as illegal immigrants convicted of felonies are deported after serving prison or jail sentences, authorities say.


Ocampo-Sotelo was arrested in March when a two-month investigation culminated in a raid of his apartment that involved 15 officers from several agencies.


Authorities seized nine ounces of cocaine and five pounds of marijuana, worth a total of about $15,000, a criminal complaint said. Police also confiscated $2,100 in cash, three cars and two handguns, one of which was stolen during a burglary in May 2008.


One dealer, who gave details to police in exchange for immunity, said he received a quarter-kilo of cocaine at a time from Ocampo-Sotelo and an average of 10 to 15 pounds of marijuana per week, according to a criminal complaint. He said the drugs came from Mexico to Chicago and then Sheboygan.


Ocampo-Sotelo was convicted as part of a plea agreement under which he pleaded guilty to felony counts of cocaine and marijuana delivery.


His roommate and accomplice, Lucia Avila-Gonzalez, 39, was deported after accepting a plea agreement last year. District Attorney Joe DeCecco has said the woman had a “peripheral roleâ€
