Lou Dobbs Tonight
Thursday, May 8, 2008

Tonight, we will have the latest world news, including details
on the disaster in Myanmar that may have already claimed
100,000 lives – a situation that is only getting worse as the
despotic government there refuses most international aid. Plus:

* A recent trade show for police equipment in China, sponsored
by the Ministry of Public Security, featured U.S. products like
surveillance kits from Motorola and bulletproof made by DuPont.
The U.S. government prohibits U.S. companies from exporting
crime control equipment to China, but these product sales all
appear to be legal. Why? Because our laws are not adequately
covering advancing technologies.

* In the latest sign of escalating violence in Mexico, the
acting chief of Mexico's federal police has been shot and
killed. The Public Safety Department of Mexico reports that the
chief was shot 10 times this morning and died hours later in a
Mexico City hospital. Two of his bodyguards were also wounded.
Police are investigating possible drug links.

* A Wisconsin man is facing five years in federal prison
because his rifle misfired at a shooting range, causing federal
agents to declare it an illegal machine gun. The man’s
sentencing has been delayed thanks to a defense motion to force
the government to disclose a Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and
Firearms memo that was excluded from the trial. The memo might
be what the man needs to be granted a new trial.
