Immigrant Groups and R.N.C. Split on Outcome of Meeting

Immigrant advocates seeking to raise Republican support for an immigration overhaul met on Wednesday with Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, but the effort got off to a rocky start when a dispute arose over what promises, if any, Mr. Steele had made during the meeting.

The disagreement was a new distraction for Mr. Steele as he battles criticism from within his own party over the committee’s spending, including a payment for a fund-raising event at a topless bar in Los Angeles.

The advocates’ meeting with Mr. Steele was part of the aftermath of a big immigration rally they held in Washington on March 21. President Obama, in a video message that day, told the demonstrators to help him raise bipartisan support for overhaul legislation, which would include contentious measures to grant legal status to millions of illegal immigrants.

Mr. Steele agreed to meet with the immigration groups after they staged a brief but noisy sit-in at the R.N.C. offices on March 22.

Several advocates emerged from the closed-door session to say Mr. Steele had pledged to help find at least one more Republican sponsor for a bill being crafted by Senator Lindsey O. Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, and Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, a Democrat.

Part of the reason for the ambiguous result is that Michael Steele also had a meeting with a group of Latino amnesty opponents who have better credentials and are more affiliated with his party.

Tony Asion, you need to find a new job. No Republican in their right mind with 2 live brain cells still connected would associate with El Pueblo let alone work for them, let alone march their ass up to RNC headquarters begging for another sponsor for another Treasonous piece of legislation that impoverishes American Workers, increases the cost of public welfare programs at all levels of government, and absolutely with all certainty finally bankrupts the United States, including every Latino and Hispanic inside our boundaries right along with everyone else.

It would be great to hear more information about that meeting.

Didnt the national GOP add language to the national platform that opposes any legalization for illegals?

Sorry. Just called then based on Populist's phone contact #. But any further contact info is appreciated.

Captainron, I am looking for a specific email for Mr. Steele, however the one that has been listed here, is the one listed on the website of the GOP. Now that Mr. Steele has met with amnesty groups, I will contact them again to ask them what is wrong with them.
