ASHEBORO, N.C. -- The parents of a North Asheboro Middle School student accused earlier this week of bringing a gun to school have also been charged with a gun crime.
Martin Carbajal and Virginia Lopez, both of Asheboro, are facing charges of failing to secure a handgun.
Asheboro police said a .380-caliber handgun was found in the student's locker.
Lopez was released after posting a $2,500 bail. Carbajal, a convicted felon, also posted a $2,500 bail, but was being detained for being in the country illegally, police said.
Police said Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents were taking him into their custody.
Because Lopez was released, her mug shot wasn't available.

ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP)
The parents of a North Asheboro Middle School student accused of having a gun on school property were arrested on weapons charges Wednesday.
Martin Carbajal and Virginia Lopez, both of 720 Old Liberty Road, Asheboro, were both charged with failing to secure a .380-caliber handgun that ended up on school property on Tuesday, Asheboro police said.
Lopez was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond. Carbajal posted his own $2,500 secured bond and has been placed on a federal detainer with Immigration and Customs Enforcement after police found he was an undocumented immigrant.
Carbajal was also convicted on felony drug possession charges in 1999, North Carolina Department of Corrections records showed.
A second student was also taken into custody in connection with the case for his role in hiding the gun in a locker, police said.
