CBP Stops Weapons at Michigan Border

Detroit — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Detroit Field Office have made more than 50 seizures of weapon shipments during the current fiscal year at Michigan ports of entry.

Since October 1, 2010, CBP officers working at ports of entry in Michigan have conducted 54 seizures of weapons, weapon accessories and fireworks. Included in these seizures were 118 items consisting of 26 pistols/revolvers, four shotguns, three rifles, 15 stun guns, one knife, magazines, speed loaders and various types of ammunition plus illegal fireworks.

A breakdown by location shows that CBP officers in Detroit conducted 43 seizures; CBP officers in Port Huron conducted seven seizures; CBP at Detroit Metro Airport conducted three seizures and there was one seizure in Sault Sainte Marie. The majority of these intercepted weapon shipments consisted of several items including guns and ammo.
