Hispanic activists announced that they will create the Mexican League against Defamation, an initiative to fight the defamatory and offensive language that is used in some American mass media against the immigrants. The League will be an open civil society to whomever wants to participate in a voluntary way to open the spaces in media, to build answers or to face the aggressors of the immigrants.
The counselors of the Institute of the Mexicans abroad, Javier Salas, Salvador Pedroza and Cuauhtémoc Morfin, head the initiative that will be set in motion at the beginning of 2008 and it intends to halt the diffusion of this type of actions against the immigrants.
Salas explained that he intends to meet with personalities who are in favor of immigrants with a perfect control of the English language so that they respond to the racist attacks as the ones that has been done by the presenter of television Lou Dobbs.
"The intention is to document with real figures the valuable contributions of the immigrants to the enlargement of this country and to divulge it among the Anglo-saxon community", he said.
The proposal arose from the request of the president of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, to the Mexican consulates to defend these attacks against the immigrants, he affirmed.
"We recognize that we can do more because we are here inside, now we only need to organize and to define a strategy", he added.
Pedroza commented that he was invited the latin American businessmen of prestige to participate in this League and will extend to Hispanic professionals of all the areas, who will be people with successful profiles.
The defamation that is done against the immigrant is through ignorance, because of it with information documented and presented by people with credibility we are going to fight it, insisted at the same time Morfin.
"It will be an answer coordinated utilizing the same media that the racists take advantage of to diffuse their poison", he added.
