Four arrested at DUI checkpoint

Five drivers were evaluated for driving under the influence, three were arrested for DUI, 12 were cited for driving while unlicensed, and one driver was arrested on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants Saturday during a checkpoint conducted by the Santa Maria Police Department.

A total of 15 vehicles were impounded.

The checkpoint was held from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of South Broadway. Of the 15 vehicles impounded at the checkpoint, all were driven by undocumented immigrants.

A total of 1,527 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 324 being screened by officers. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
