I like Charles Krauthammer. Really. By and large, I find his columns to be wonderfully cogent and fully expressive of the conservative values that many Americans hold dear. But there must be something in the water in Washington, D.C., or, to paraphrase an expression coined by Mr. Krauthammer himself, perhaps Beltway Derangement Syndrome (his was Bush Derangement Syndrome) truly exists. If I had to chose between deporting everyone here illegally or completing the border fence, I would chose the deportation option.

There would be no need to wall the border if we enforced all immigration laws internally. The message to illegal aliens would then be, you WILL be deported, so save your money and don't bother coming!

There is the problem of many millions on the way. Just stopping that flow solves none of the problems that are presently taking down this country. Deport all invaders. Unemployment is not working!

I generally like Dr. Krauthammer and agree with him on many issues. Obviously, that cannot be said when it comes to this issue and quite frankly, his position on this has mottled my impression of him somewhat.

It would appear on this issue that Dr.Krauthammer is just another out- of-touch elitist, who cannot seem to come to grips regarding the devastating impact illegal immigration is having on this country. Of course, the fact that he can live in a gated community, isolated for the ravages of open borders, while sending his children to the best private schools money can buy, is likely not helping his understanding of the issue any.

Unfortunately, the limited contact most elites like Dr.Krauthammer have with illegals, is reserved for those interactions they have with the hired help for their estates. I suspect those interactions have helped skew their overall impression of illegal invaders and their detrimental impact on our society. Positive interactions with your housekeeper should not shape national policy.

Nonetheless, America is one of the most generous countries on the face of this planet when it comes to legal immigration. We allow in over a million legal immigrants a year into this country, not counting the various numbers allowed in on any number of visas available to them. I can see no valid reason why that generosity should extend to the 20+ million of individuals who entered this country in violation of our immigration laws, not to mention sovereignty.

Even if we were to take the recycled, 11 million figure those up on the beltway and MSM like to throw around when clamoring for amnesty; that number certainly doesn’t take into account the number that would arrive via chain migration once that 11 million were legalized. The fact is that number would increase four fold, easily.

What Dr.Krauthammer’s position sadly ignores is that the vast majority of American citizens want our border secured, immigration laws enforced, and no “pathway to citizenshipâ€
