Illegal Immigration
Jul 7th, 2007
by Friends of Zach Wamp
In the last 2 years, the federal government has spent billions on manpower and patrols to stop the flow of illegals. And late last week, an announcement came that Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. Senate have reached an agreement on a bill that would give legal status to millions of people. The legislation would tighten the borders; all 12 million-plus illegal immigrants could stay, and they’d have to learn English and pay a 5000-dollar fine for having entered illegally. Anyone who wants to become a US citizen would have to wait between 8 and 13-years behind those who’ve already applied… but they would be allowed to live and work here while they wait.
Local congressman Zach Wamp doesn’t like the plan…he says it still amounts to amnesty.“’I’m going to vote against and I want the people to know I’m going to vote against it. What it’s going to do is increase immigration overall and it’s going to cost us a ton of money it’s going to be very bureaucratic, problematic, it’s not even going to work well.â€<div>If a squirrel goes up a politician's pants... I went looking for this bill
H.R. 3700 [109th]: Reducing Immigration to a Genuinely Healthy Total (RIGHT) Act of 2005 (GovTrack.us)
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xp ... =h109-3700
Last Action: Oct 17, 2005:
Referred to the Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims.
Prohibits automatic citizenship by birth unless at least one of the individual's parents is, at the time of birth, a U.S. citizen or national or an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence.
Makes voting in a foreign election a basis for automatic loss of U.S. citizenship.
Sets forth the instances under which illegal U.S. presence by a person shall be considered as not demonstrating good moral character for immigration purposes.
Because this bill was introduced in a previous session of Congress, no more action can occur on this bill. To see if related legislation is introduced in the current Congress, you will have to monitor the relevant subject areas, such as the ones listed in the Other Info tab.
can't find it was re-submitted<div>If a squirrel goes up a politician's pants... You can bet...he'll come-back down hungry.....

I wish there was a way to make these provisions retroactive for ten years. Probably difficult enough to get it through Congress the way it is.
Otherwise a judicial ruling could work--to determine whether those entering illegally are truly under US jurisdiction. Wouldn't you think that someone coming totally under the radar --with no official application--has shown they have no intent to be under US jurisdiction."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie.
