Ping List: *Minuteman Project*

On Wednesday, Minuteman security chief James Chase said the movement has 600 to 700 volunteers staffing lookout posts around the clock. Organizers have had to turn away about 10,000 more because they lacked time or personnel to process their applications, Chase said.

Now, the Minutemen are preparing to carry their campaign beyond Arizona to California, New Mexico and Texas. Last week, Chase said he planned to begin operating near the San Ysidro border crossing with about 40 volunteers, possibly as early as June.

On Wednesday, the list of volunteers had grown to 300 California residents. Chase said he plans to postpone his border-watch to launch a coordinated campaign with the other states in September.

"We're hearing from other states as well," Chase said. "It's like we've lit a firecracker, or a series of them. We're going to move forward with whatever we have to do to get this thing done, even if we have to privatize the Border Patrol. We're gonna do it."
