Minutemen rally against Bush, Dreier

Pasadena Star-News

Protesters gathered Wednesday in front of Rep. David Dreier's Glendora office in opposition to the president's proposed guest-worker plan for illegal immigrants. The protest started at
9 a.m. Wednesday and participants plan to be there until 9 a.m. today.

Among those participating were members of Apple Valley-based High Desert Minutemen, Minutemen Making a Difference and the Fire Coalition, said Robin Hvidston, a member of Minutemen Making a Difference. Mark Harmsen, district director for Dreier, said the protesters were targeting the wrong person.

"I think it's rather ironic given David Dreier's role in fighting against illegal immigration and he has been extraordinarily prominent in that regard."

Harmsen said Dreier is working to beef up the border patrol and has pushed bills to toughen penalties for people who hire illegal immigrants.
