PHOENIX - Several bills targeting illegal immigration are now poised for consideration by the Arizona Senate after clearing the last preliminary hurdle in that chamber.

The bills' many provisions including placing new reporting requirements on hospitals and K-12 schools, making it a crime for illegal immigrants to drive in Arizona and trying to secure a U.S.
Supreme Court ruling on citizenship for children of illegal immigrants.

Majority Republicans discussed the bill for nearly two hours Tuesday. They now can be considered by the full Senate, but debate and votes haven't been scheduled yet.

Senate President Russell Pearce, the sponsor of last year's SB1070 crackdown law, is among the illegal immigration hardliners who support the various measures.

Some other GOP senators want a timeout on the illegal immigration issue.
