Six illegal immigrants were taken into custody Wednesday after an investigation at a Perham area business.

The investigation was prompted by a call to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office Monday regarding several men who believed they were not being paid fairly by their employer. The caller was an acquaintance of the workers, according to the sheriff’s office.

Upon further investigation, authorities identified six illegal immigrants living in the city of Perham, all men ranging in age from 20 to 33. The men, who hail from Nicaragua, Guatemala and Mexico, were transported to the U.S. Border Patrol in Grand Forks for processing and deportation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities did not release the name of the Perham area business where the men had been employed.
