ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Federal prosecutors are seeking the forfeiture of property from a Deming gun shop whose owner and employees are accused of selling guns to Mexican cartel members.
A 10-count civil forfeiture complaint was filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque for property related to federal firearms smuggling and money laundering charges.
New Deal Shooting Sports owner Rick Reese, his wife and two of their sons are accused of selling 34 weapons and ammunition to undercover agents and a Mexican cartel member-turned-government informant from 2010 to July.
Authorities claim the Reeses fudged firearms purchasing forms during the transactions and laundered the proceeds.
The Reeses were arrested in August during raids of their properties in Deming and Las Cruces. All have pleaded not guilty to the charges and remain in federal custody.
