A family-run company in Downeast Maine has become the first business in the state to sign an agreement with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Whitney Wreath has signed a deal with ICE that strengthens hiring practices and to combat the unlawful employment of illegal immigrant workers.

The company is also part of an online system that can verify if newly hired employees are eligible to work in the U.S.

Whitney has been making fresh, balsam wreaths for 25 years. It's one of the largest producers of wreaths and home decorations in the nation.
