Two men and a woman were arrested Wednesday afternoon when officers found 11 pounds of cocaine in a truck on Interstate 10.

Eleven pounds is the equivalent of five kilos. One kilo of cocaine in Beaumont sells wholesale for about $20,000, said Maj. Jim Singletary with the Jefferson County Narcotics Unit.

The 33-year-old man and 25-year-old man were both Mexican nationals, Singletary said. The 27-year-old woman was born in Honduras.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are assisting the Sheriff's Office with the case.

Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department Drug Interdiction Unit pulled the Ford F-250 over for following too closely, Singletary said.

When Sgt. Trish Molifino and Dep. Chad Williamson approached the truck, they could smell a carpet freshener or fabric softener very strongly.

A Beaumont Police Department dog was called to the scene and alerted on the dashboard which yielded the packages of cocaine.

The truck had a Florida license plate.
