DALLAS — Detectives from the Dallas Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit charged two men late Wednesday night in the kidnapping and rape of an SMU student athlete.

Charges were announced at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Police filed aggravated sexual assault charges against Arturo Arevalo and Alfonso Zuniga, both 28.

Police took them into custody late Tuesday afternoon, though investigators would not immediately reveal what led them to the men.

Arevalo and Zuniga are suspected of kidnapping and raping a petite SMU student athlete as she left an off-campus party with friends early Saturday morning, December 5.

DPD said charges are pending against a third suspect.

Investigators have asked that photos of the two men not be broadcast or published until the victim can view a lineup on Thursday.

Records show Arevalo and Zuniga are illegal immigrants.

They're being held on $500,000 bond at the Dallas County Jail.

SMU Student Rape Suspects In Jail
    DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―

Dallas Police have arrested two men in connection to the off-campus rape of a SMU student athlete.

Arturo Arevalo and Alfonso Zuniga face aggrivated sexual assault charges in the case. Arevalo is also charged with aggravated robbery.

Dallas Police say charges are pending for a third suspect.

The 20-year-old victim had just left a party early Saturday in downtown Dallas when she was forced into a car with her attackers.

One of her classmates who was at the party said the victim and several other students were leaving the party when three men drove up in a dark-colored SUV.

Police said one of the men grabbed the victim around the neck, put a gun to her head and forced her into the back seat of the vehicle.

They reportedly put duct tape over her eyes and took her to another location where they raped her.

According to police, the victim was pushed out of the vehicle and ran for help.

The attack did not happen on campus, but SMU administrators have issued a statement supporting the victim and urging students to be cautious.

Dallas police have just announced a third arrest in the weekend kidnapping and sexual assault of a 20-year-old Southern Methodist University student athlete.

Luis Zuniga, 26, joins Arturo Arevalo and Alfonso Zuniga, both 28, in the Dallas County Jail today. They are accused of abducting the woman off an Old East Dallas street early Saturday morning, as she left a party with a group of friends.

Police believe the men took the victim to a deserted lot, where they raped and robbed her, before dumping her in South Dallas.

Dallas County Jail records indicate all three men are suspected of being in the country illegally.

Dallas police have called a 3:30 p.m. press conference to discuss the arrests, so I'll have more information for you in a little while.

DALLAS - Police are investigating the reported rape of an SMU student in East Dallas.

Early Saturday morning, the 20-year-old student was walking with three other people in the 1800 block of N. Garrett Avenue. They were leaving a party when a car with three men pulled alongside them, according to police.

Police said the men kidnapped the woman at gunpoint. They took her to an empty parking lot where all three raped her. They later dropped her off in the 1300 block of S. Haskell in Fair Park.

According to a police report, the men covered the woman’s eyes with duct tape. But, she was able to flag down a driver and get help.

Police said her friends also reported the crime after it happened.

Other women in the area say they are now worried about their safety.

Sofia Morales said it’s very scary to think about because anyone can be a victim.
