Arkansas Times: Illegals are here to lift the country up

Check out this blather from the state's liberal rag. The publisher(who I know) is part of a group of pro-immigration activists who have made it their mission to fight any legislation aimed at steeming the flow of illegals into the state. The state ACLU chapter is involved, as are several corporations. Within a few months they're going to have a serious fight on their hands--at least we hope.

I posted this reply to the article:

What an interesting way of thinking. Two weeks ago the engine died on my car, I have used public transportation until I get my new car next week. Well, since my neighbor has 3 cars and 2 drivers, I should just help myself to the one they don't use that day. After all I need to get to work to support my family and they have 3 vehicles. If my need is greater then I should TAKE it, never mind that it doesn't belong to me and that my theft would be illegal. Now, just imagine if we all disobeyed the law..oh we would be Mexico.

Illegal aliens come to America and expect us to turn our country - its laws, its culture, its system of citizen benefits - on its ear to benefit them. Then they accuse us of being racist, bigoted, and hateful xenophobes for requiring them to follow the law that countless LEGAL immigrants took the time to follow. They refuse to acknowledge how their actions can rightfully be interpreted as insulting. They’re essentially saying, “We don’t give a damn about you, your laws, your country or your culture…gimme, gimme, gimme.â€

Perceptions of The Immigrant vary, to say the least. Merchant and restaurateur Eduardo Martinez of Little Rock sees himself a few years ago — ambitious, hard-working, law-abiding, soon to become a pillar of the community.

Mayor Stephen Womack of Rogers sees people who drive up the crime rate, strain government services as well as the patience of the natives, and generally bear watching.

A curious coalition of hard-nosed businessmen and soft-hearted do-gooders sees someone who needs protection from ill-informed and ill-intentioned elected officials.

A fair number of inhospitable Arkansans see a brown-skinned, Spanish-speaking newcomer taking over a state that rightfully belongs to white-skinned Anglophones.

Gourmets see one who's given the state something it lacked — good Mexican restaurants, even in small towns.

To some, The Immigrant who doesn't have all the papers he's supposed to have is “undocumented.â€

Arkansas is like a microcosm for America. There is still a lot of unemployment in the Delta area and new poultry plants could ave been built there to get access to the labor. Instead the existing poultry plants have expanded in their current locations by using Latino immigrants and displacing local Western Arkansas natives by paying lower wages than would be attractive to them. It makes you wonder who the liberal press are actually for. I guess Latinos are easy to patronize instead of being concerned for the future of Arkansas and America's own poor.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

[quote]Cheap immigrant labor keeps manufacturers' costs down, according to the Rockefeller profile. Latino immigrants make less money than natives, an average of about $8 an hour compared to $11. “[T]he state's manufacturing wage bill would have been as much as $95 million higher [in 2004] if the same output were to be maintained without immigrant workers,â€
