Public, employers to get heads up on immigration law

ANDERSON — The South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) will make a scheduled stop Dec. 4 at Tri-County Technical College at 511 Michelin Blvd. in Anderson to help employers and the general public gain a better understanding of the state’s new illegal immigration law. The session begins at 10 a.m.

Gov. Mark Sanford signed the South Carolina Illegal Immigration Reform Act into law in June. The law specifically targets the hiring of illegal immigrants and provides stiff penalties for those who do not comply.

“I think the key point in this law is that every employer needs to understand failure to comply could result in the loss of their right to do business in South Carolina,â€
