Lakehurst accident leads to arrest of undocumented alien
LAKEHURST — A Red Bank man was arrested following a minor motor vehicle collision on Saturday afternoon, after police discovered he is an undocumented alien.
Alfredo Hernandez-Perez, 18, was taken to Ocean County Jail where he is being held on a no-bail detainer issued by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Sgt. Ronald Heinzman said.
Police were initially called to the intersection of Route 70 and Orchard Street at
2:10 p.m. when a Plymouth station wagon driven by Hernandez-Perez collided with the rear of a four-door Mercury driven by Roy Simonsen, of Whiting.
During an investigation, officer Matthew Kline discovered Hernandez-Perez was in
possession of multiple summonses issued by the Red Bank municipal court. Initially, Hernandez-Perez provided Kline with a false name, Heinzman said, but the summonses and a fraudulent Social Security card provided police with the driver's correct name.
Hernandez-Perez was transported to Ocean County Jail in Toms River and is charged with possessing a fraudulent document and hindering apprehension. He was issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving and operating a motor vehicle without a license. In addition to the ICE detainer, he is held in lieu of $1,000 bail.
Neither Hernandez-Perez nor Simonsen were injured in the crash, Heinzman said.
Patrolman Michael Rodriguez assisted Heinzman and Kline at the crash scene.
