Police officers must ask suspects arrested in serious crimes about their immigration status and notify federal and state authorities if they believe those people are undocumented immigrants, under a directive issued Wednesday by the New Jersey Attorney General’s office.

The need for “a uniform state policy on notification" to immigration authorities became evident after two men identified as being in the country illegally were charged in a recent triple homicide in Newark, Attorney General Anne Milgram said during a news conference this afternoon.

Before the directive, “all police departments in our state had complete discretion as to if, when and how to notify immigration authorities,â€

They need to get over this racial profiling crap. If you are legal why would you care is some one asks, all it is doing is protecting people who entered our country illegally.

While NJs new policy is still severely lacking and open borders it is still better than nothing.

All of this illegals need to be comfortable with the police crap needs to stop. If you're here illegally you should be afraid of the police.

It's one more step in the right disrection. We need little steps and periodicaaly a big step in this direction.
