ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) - US Border Patrol agents have seized $1.1 million worth of cocaine in a stop at a traffic checkpoint south of Alamogordo.

Agents say they found more than 36 pounds of cocaine yesterday hidden in a car with Colorado license plates. A drug-sniffing dog alerted to the engine compartment area after agents noticed tool marks along the vehicle's undercarriage.

Agents then found several bundles wrapped in black shipping tape in a compartment inside the fenders and the car's firewall.

The Border Patrol says the powdery substance inside the bundles tested positive for cocaine. They say the 28-year-old woman who was driving was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
