    Day-labor bill rejected; may resurface
    The Associated Press

PHOENIX - The Arizona Senate dealt at least a temporary setback to efforts to place new restraints on day laborers.

The Senate narrowly rejected a bill Thursday prohibiting day laborers from seeking work on public streets and sidewalks and private property under some circumstances.

With seven senators absent before the long Memorial Day weekend, supporters fell one vote short of the number needed for passage. A reconsideration vote could be held next week when more senators are on hand.

The House approved the bill earlier, and Senate approval would send it to Gov. Janet Napolitano. She vetoed a version last year. Republican Rep. John Kavanagh of Fountain Hills said the bill is intended to reduce traffic disruptions caused by day laborers and help lessen problems with illegal immigration.

And Napolitano will most likely veto it again. Which means it will go before the voters and pass. After which Napolitano will find a million reasons as to why it cannot be enforced.

So it goes in Arizona............. SOS, just a different year.
