Hundreds of Nebraskans are expected to gather at the state Capitol next week to show their opposition to a measure targeting illegal immigrants.

Nebraska Appleseed says buses and vans will bring people from Grand Island, Kearney and Omaha on Wednesday for the UNITY Rally for the Good Life.

Last week, state Sen. Charlie Janssen introduced an illegal immigration measure reminiscent of one passed last year in Arizona.
Janssen's bill would require police officers, when enforcing other laws, to question the immigration status of those they suspect are in the country illegally. It would also require non-U.S. citizens to carry documents showing their legal status.

Nebraska Appleseed says the measure isn't good for the state, and that changes to the immigration system should come at the federal level.
